Modern Music for Classical Guitar

Robert Barr

Robert Barr has been making music for guitar for the last 40 years. Here you will find pieces he has played to the public and taught to his students in London and São Paulo during that time.

It's lively, colourful music, immediate and rhythmic. It requires classical guitar technique, but the pieces themselves are inspired by jazz, Latin American, dance and popular music. They are great fun to play, and a joy for others to listen to and dance to.

Guitarists of all standards will find gems here: solos and duets, dances, dreams, sketches, variations, sashays, narratives, all essentially guitaristic and a happy addition to your repertoire.

As well as the many pieces for solo guitar guitar, you will find Robert's acclaimed suite for two guitars, Gone to Portugal (comprising Coming into Coimbra, Punto de Sagres, The Cat among the Pigeons, Passei o Dia com Ana Maria, and Braganza). These pieces give lots of fun for two guitarists who are looking to explore how far guitaristic possibilities can reach.
